Photo Album of the Berlin TV-Tower (Fernsehturm) with free pictures. The Berlin TV-Tower (Fernsehturm) at Alexanderplatz is the tallest building in Germany. Since 1969, the 368m-tall tower rises into the Berlin sky. It opened in 1969, with a viewing gallery at 203m and a revolving restaurant at 207m. It is the second highest television tower in the world and even the fourth highest freestanding building in Europe. The TV-Tower is one of the most popular attractions in Germany.
The German Post of the GDR had the tower built. Legend has it, to the embarrassment of GDR authorities – the steel sphere below the antenna produced the reflection of a giant cross, having GDR authorities even considering the demolition of the tower. The reflection itself was soon known as “The Pope’s Revenge“.
The pictures show the Berlin TV-Tower from different points of view at Leipziger Strasse, Friedrichs Bridge (Friedrichsbrücke), Railway Station Alexanderplatz, Berlin Wall Memorial, Berlin-Mitte, Alexanderplatz and Strausberger Platz. You can see the Red City Hall (Rotes Rathaus), the River Spree, the Conrad Schumann Memorial called Mauerspringer (“Wall jumper”), Berlin Skyline, St. Mary’s Church (Marienkirche), the Neptune Fountain (Neptunbrunnen) and the World Clock (Weltzeituhr).
